Language development + bilingual education

Multilingualism: one of the key competences

Multilingualism is one of the most important skills in the modern world. It opens the door to better education and career opportunities, as well as enabling international exchange and friendships around the world. At TfK, we show a special value for children‘s languages and encourage them to try their hand at several languages. Our bilingual programmes create the perfect environment for this and ensure a love of learning.

The best timing

The natural time frame for language development is best utilized during day nursery and preschool age. At this point in time the neural network for language is developing in the heads of the children. It can easily analyze and recognize several languages at the same time without additional effort. This means that the parallelism of the German and English language does not adversely affect English as the native language. Hence, bilingualism not only increases the productivity of the brain, it further nurtures the native language of the child and its cognitive capabilities at the same time. This for example results in an elevated self-perception, increased creativity, empathy and stronger problem solving skills.

Media literacy and language development

We see media education as a great opportunity to promote children‘s language development. Through various media tools, children not only learn how to use devices, but can also use them as aids for developing their own stories, dialogues, interactions, and for storytelling. In educational settings, we can use talking pens, audio books and audio stories or for example digital children‘s books. The use of media is supervised by our educational professionals. This creates many valuable opportunities for interaction, which are essential for language development.

Playful German - a window into the world of the German language

In our facilities, we want to make multilingualism present and provide easier access to the German language. We achieve this through the daily visit of our German-speaking hand puppets. In small fifteen-minute sessions, the children learn their first German words. Playfully and without force.

"For me, beeing multilingual opened doors to the whole world. Now it is my wish to share inspiration and my passion for languages with the whole world.

We give children the chance to intuitively learn grammar without defining the rules in advance. We offer them language and let them analyze and discover the way the English language works and how the grammar is structured."
